For Sale

After almost two years as official home owners, we believe that it is time to get our house ready to go on the market. We’ve started to notify our family members, some of whom responded to the news with hushed questions, like “Why would you move? You just moved in!” or “Why sell after all the hard work put into your home?”

I find myself asking these same questions—if I could pick up my house and move it wherever we want to live, I’m not sure I’d ever choose to sell it. But staying here simply isn’t the right choice for us. If we stay here, I don’t want it to be because we’re afraid to take a risk.

Being afraid to leap creeps up on you…just like those extra five pounds, or the collection of dusty junk in the back of your closet. It starts with some occasional hesitations—but it can lead to a lifetime of little regrets, creating a mountain of “What if?”

I think at one time or another, we all hesitate. Sometimes, we hesitate because we’re taking a big financial or personal risk. Sometimes it’s because we aren’t sure what we want. Other times, we are avoiding disappointing the ones we love.

In our case, it’s time to jump. We’re selling our home with no idea where we will end up. It sounds like an irresponsible choice, but for us, it’s an adventure that we’re absolutely sure we want to take. The risk is much greater if we stay.

Life is a long maze of choices—yeses and noes that lead to unexpected destinations, dead ends, and winding paths that take years to navigate. But I think the happiest people, the ones who are confident in their choices and live without regrets, say yes more than they say no.

So, as my husband and I are beginning to feel stuck on the hamster wheel of our day-to-day lives, we’re hopping off. We’re selling our house, one of the toughest, most emotional things I’ve ever had to do in my life thus far, in order to make room for our future. I don’t think a new, fulfilling, exciting future will just fall into our lap. I think we have to make it happen. We’re not just stepping out of our comfort zone—we’re catapulting out of it completely.

So, if you’re looking for a really cute, fully renovated cape in Southern NH, give us a call. We can’t wait to meet the family that will start their next adventure in our first home.
